** I'm editing this after the fact because I forgot to mention one of our favorite jet lag activities: a classical music concert. Since it was Sunday, we headed to the American Church for their Atelier series, where we heard a beautiful flute and guitar concert.
So here was our dinner tonight: bleu from the Auvergne (but not bleu d'auvergne, seriously - can't remember the name); a tiny bit of pata negra (roughly translated to ham đ ); baguette from a ....gasp... not famous boulangerie, but still fantastic; and a lovely persimmon and succulent foie gras courtesy of our kind hosts. Madiran from a cavist open on Sunday (almost worthy of a marriage proposal) completed our first Parisian night.

Was the blue cheese a fourme d'Ambert?
ReplyDeleteHi Ken! Nope - I know fourme d'Ambert well. This was something I'd never heard of. I vowed to learn more about French cheese, but that's going to be challenging if I can't remember what I'm eating!
ReplyDeleteI like your overall plan for jet lag--generally, I have be sure to stay up until past 8:00-9:00pm and keep active, so it's a good day to wander around the neighborhood, step into a few cafés, and try to find the best local croissants, orange pressé, cheese, wine, and chocolate.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you've said this earlier and I've forgotten, but in what area are you staying?
Have a great trip and keep the reports coming for those of us vicariously not eating turkey. (Some wine friends and I had an early Thanksgiving yesterday and bought a little white truffle as a consortium--did not miss the turkey much!)
Hi Bill- Tom told me about your early Thanksgiving - sounded awesome!
ReplyDeleteWe're staying in our usual 'hood - in/near Montmartre.
